FAQS:
Cabinet care
Cabinets can be cleaned with most commercial waxes and products advertised as cabinet or furniture polish. You should NEVER clean any wood product with water! (see wood and warping) Also, you should never use any type of commercial cleaner on wood, such as window cleaner, ammonia or bleach. The chemicals in the cleaners can irreparably damage the finish that protects the wood. You should also refrain from placing any type of tape or
adhesive on wood or wood finishes as the chemicals in the adhesive can damage the finish. If you are in doubt, contact the cabinet or furniture manufacturer.
Hardware
Hardware can make a huge impact and a dramatic statement on you and your tastes. From oil rubbed bronze to stainless steel, the styles and materials are almost endless.
When selecting hardware you should first understand how you will use the product and then choose a durable product. It cannot be said often enough; you must be honest with yourself on what you need vs what you want. It is very easy to "go overboard" and spend a significant amount of money, or on the other hand, try to save money, and not receive the product that you need.
Visually your hardware should compliment your choice of cabinets, appliances and countertops. One rule of thumb is to try to tie the style and color to your home decor. The key is to take your time here, don't rush your decision and if you are in doubt, ask us, we can help steer you in the right direction.
Wood and Warping
Wood is a "live" material. What does that mean? Wood shrinks, expands and warps (this is typically referred to as movement) as the wood is influenced by temperature, sunlight and humidity. This happens with ALL wood
and it cannot be prevented. This is why modern museums seek a constant temperature and humidity level, it limits wood (and other material) movement allowing the wood to last longer. For additional information see Water, Wood and Engineered Wood...
